Did you know that a Word document is really just a ZIP file presented as a .docx? Give it a try by renaming a .docx to .zip and you’ll see you can open it and see the contents.
I needed to extract several images from a Word doc and by doing this you will find a Media folder in the zip file that contains the original images (that Word may have compressed).

After mulitple tries at getting error code 0x800F081F when trying to install .NET Framework 3.5 (and downloading the associated files for 2.0 and 3.0) on Windows 10, I was finally able to get it working.
Go into RegEdit and locate the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate\AU folder. Double click on UseWUServer(UseWindowsUpdateServer) and change the value to 0. If the value is already 0 this fix may not work for you. I had to reboot and then try to install .Net again, then it worked.
I recently had quite a hard time setting up a Windows share using Samba on a Mythbuntu box so here are some links and reminders. I tried several GUI apps but none worked with consistant results.

It’s amazing that Microsoft doesn’t yet have an easy way to download multiple files or folders from One Drive, but here is the best solution currently available.
Guys, there is a solution to the problem to download multiples files and/or folders from OneDrive for Business. I stumbled on it in another forum after reading through this one. You have to use Internet Explorer (not Edge, FF, Chrome, etc) Once you have logged into your OneDrive for Biz web page, look on the bottom left corner. There should be a link to “Switch to Classic View” there. Once you are back in Classic View, click the gear at the top right corner. Turn the Ribbon “On”, it’s the first option. Once the Ribbon is on, click “Library” and then “Open with Explorer”. This will launch your OneDrive for Biz share in a native Windows Explorer window. Obviously, from there, the possibilities to manipulate files and folders are endless. Not a seamless solution, but being able to open OneDrive for Biz in Explorer is also an awesome option, no client necessary. Hope this helps!

I recently had a project where I could not figure out the proper way to get his to work for a few hours. I wanted to create a button that had text in two different colors, but when the button was hovered both text elements would change color at the same time. The link and fiddle below were very helpful.
I was recently having an issue where SP 2013 users with Full Control of a site would receive a page access error when trying to edit the page.
To fix this you need to give users proper access to the page layouts and master pages.
Go to the top level of the site then:
Site settings > Master pages and page layouts
View the “Library Settings” and then the “Permissions for this document library”. In my case, this library had unique permissions and only a special admin group had access. Set the permissions to inherit and it should then fix the issue.
It looks like Kodi (formerly XBMC) is the best possible media center platform available today. The big question is what hardward to run the application on. After trying out a Matricom (insert link) and not being happy with the overall user interface and apps from the Google Play store that were made for a touch screen device, I decided to try running Kodi on an Amazon Fire TV (2015).
Out of the box the UI is great. There are many popular apps available directly from the Amazon Fire TV app store and easy access to Amazon Prime videos. All the supported apps and UI work perfectly with the included and simple to use remote.
One of the easiest and best ways to install Kodi and control your Fire TV is by using the Fire Starter app (link). Once you have Fire Starter installed it is easy to install and keep Kodi updated with one click.
After installing Kodi, you will want to take advantage of the many available add-ons. One of the easiest ways is by installing many add-ons with a single click from a zip file, like the method from tvaddons.ag (link).
MythTV and Mythbuntu
If you really want the best experience of live tv, it is highly recommended setting up a PVR backend like MythTV. Doing this will give you access to over the air live live TV from your antenna with multi-room DVR capabilities. This setup guide will be extremely helpful in setting up a MythTV Backend with tv guide listing data via Schedules Direct (Link to setup guide).
I chose to install Mythbuntu which is a version of Ubuntu Linux that has MythTV already installed and ready to go. I had first installed Mythbuntu 14.04.2 32 bit but later decided I should have gone 64 bit. I decided to do a fresh install but repeatedly received mysql database errors while trying to configure a clean install of Mythbuntu 16.04 64 bit. I then tried Mythbuntu 14.04.2 64 bit and everything worked on the first try. Even doing the upgrade to v16 through the automated software updater after installing v14 caused major issues for me (mysql and permission errors).
When installing the OS from the ISO files, I found that Rufus was a fantastic tool for easily creating bootable USB drives instead of burning installation DVDs.
When recently updating a masterpage I received the error:
Literal content (‘ ‘) is not allowed within a ‘System.Web.UI.UpdatePanelTriggerCollection’
This was caused by an multiple html non-breaking spaces that somehow got added to the file when editing the page in SharePoint Designer. It appeared around line 354 and there were multiple “ ” in the code.
Microsoft should make it more transparent about which SharePoint site template is used to create a site, but they didn’t … so here is how to locate it.
View the source code of a page and search for “sitetemplateid”. The value listed will be a code for the template … something like “BLANKINTERNET#0” or “STS#1”.
Take that template code and look it up here to find the corresponding template for the code.
