Update: This also helped me fix an issues where my Windows 8 applications would not keep focus. They would continue to blink and the focus would turn on and off, causing me to not be able to properly type, resize, use, etc.
If you have tried out Windows 8 Consumer Preview already then you know it is pretty great. However, you may have run into an issue where applications you are trying to install need .Net 3.5 and Windows update cannot auto-download it for you.
Here is the solution to get .Net 3.5 working.
- Insert the Windows 8 Installation CD
- Open a command prompt as administrator
- Run the command “xcopy e:\sources\sxs\*.* c:\dotnet35 /s” (choose folder, not file, if prompted)
- Run the command “Dism.exe /online /enable-feature /featurename:NetFX3 /All /Source:c:\dotnet35 /LimitAccess“
